FAQ
What is Mastering?
Mastering is the last creative step and also the first part of replicating your music for the outside world (what we offer is technically known as pre-mastering). For album mastering it is about taking the individual track/mixes and creating a cohesive collection.
What will you do to my music?
First of all we listen to the track/mix and decide if any processing changes are needed to either enhance it or to make is sit better with other tracks/mixes within the collection. If your mixes are really great then we may need to do nothing, although due to to working situations and modern day requests, some processing may be required. This can range from EQ treatement to compression and loudness techniques.
What do I need to do to help you?
Just make the tracks sound as best as you can as the better the mix the better the master. Although mastering is capable of a lot of things, please do not expect mastering to turn a bad mix into a A-class master. If working at 24 bit or higher resolution it is acceptable to leave a little headroom to allow for any changes. If you want to add compression to your mix for a particular sound then please go ahead. If you are using compression or limiter/finalizers for loudness then this best left to the mastering stage.
We accept all bit resolution formats including 32bit floating point and also all sample rates up to 96 kHz
How loud?
This is a very important question that needs to be considered, as depending how loud you want your master effects every decision made and more importantly the overall sound quality of your material. Although we do not condone the current 'Loudness Wars' we do appreciate that your material needs to be able to compete with the other artists out there.
How Much?
We currently charge a standard £25 per track which we consider to be a competitive rate and inline with current exchange rates within the USA
